An ex-soldier who shot dead a bikie boss allegedly at the request of an underworld rival described the murder as a community service, a court has been told.

The assassin, who cannot be named for legal reasons, gunned down senior Rebels bikie Nick Martin at Perth Motorplex on December 12, 2020 in a sniper-style attack.

The ex-army reservist returned to the witness box on Friday at the murder trial of David James Pye, 43, who allegedly paid the killer $100,000 for the hit at the racetrack.

Pye’s barrister, David Hallowes SC, attacked the 39-year-old’s integrity during his cross-examination as he took him through a series of conversations recorded after the killing.
