Diwali 2025 is almost here.

For five days starting Oct. 20, Hindus and other members of the South Asian diaspora in Canada will join roughly one billion people around the world in celebrating Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, to mark the spiritual victory of good over evil and light over darkness.

Followers of other South Asian religions will commemorate similar holidays at the same time.

Sikhs will celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas on Oct. 21 to mark the release of Guru Hargobind from prison in 1619. Jains will also commemorate Mahavira Nirvana Diwas on Tuesday, celebrating the day Lord Mahavira attained Nirvana. News
