The Morristown Hamblen Humane Society has officially raised the $100,000 needed to unlock a $200,000 county match, paving the way for an expansion that leaders say will help with overcrowding and provided much-needed quarantine space.

MHHS Board President Lori Hotel said everyone at the shelter is grateful to be able help more animals.

“We’ve officially raised our $100,000 that’s needed for the county to match,” Hotel said. “We’re really excited about it. We’re thankful to everybody in the community for all of the support that got us to this point.”

The Hamblen County Commission had, in prior years, approved and set aside the money so that when the shelter was able to raise their portion, $300,000 would be ready to go to the effort.
