War on pet stores?

I don’t know if there’s a “war” on pet stores, but the pet trade certainly has its casualties — the animals ( “Mad War on Pet Stores,” John Stossel, PostOpinion, Oct. 13).

Puppies and kittens sold in stores often come from filthy breeding mills, where mothers are caged and bred repeatedly until they collapse. Responsible laws prevent cruelty and protect consumers from heartbreak.

Stossel often writes in favor of individual rights. We should remember that animals are individuals too — ones who deserve more than to be treated as merchandise.
