Maggie may only be 20 months old but the bloodhound has already developed a lengthy service record as a K9 for the Stanley Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

Maggie came to Stanley Valley VFD at just nine weeks old from a family in Athens, Tennessee. She started training a short time after she arrived.

“There was a family in Athens who had a litter of puppies and they donated her,” Maggie’s handler Brad Fields said. “We’ve had her around 18 months. Her work requires extensive and specialized training. She is certified in both mantrailing and human remains detection.”

Fields said that he has spent hundreds of hours preparing Maggie for her certifications, including the required 40-hour courses.
