Gold Coast Suns recruit Christian Petracca has declared football was the “No.1 priority” in deciding his AFL future.

Speaking for the first time in Suns colours since his trade from Melbourne, the 2021 Norm Smith medallist believes he can get back to his best after a difficult two years.

The midfielder, who turns 30 in January, agitated for a move a year ago in the months after his life-threatening injuries in the King’s Birthday clash.

‘Brand Petracca’ and the perception around his professional pursuits became a go-to criticism when he pushed for a trade in 2024.

While he remains cagey on his reasons for wanting to leave Melbourne, beyond seeking a fresh start, Petracca insists his move was all about football.
