DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime -- a reason why organizers say the Let's Beat Breast Cancer rally in Durham Saturday was sharing the importance of making healthier lifestyle choices.
Dilip Barman organized the morning rally with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. The group promotes disease prevention with a focus on healthier food choices.
"These lifestyle changes can make a big impact on not just cancer, not just certain kinds of cancer, but also diabetes, high blood pressure," Barman said.
Aside from eating more plant-based meals, Barman says limiting alcohol, regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight can also help.
"We do have some genetic predisposition, but then by eating properly, by adopting
