The Punjab government Saturday suspended Deputy Inspector General Harcharan Singh Bhullar , two days after he was arrested by the CBI in a bribery case. The suspension is effective from October 16, the day Bhullar was arrested from his Mohali office and a day after he was sent to judicial custody by a CBI court.

An order issued by the state Home Affairs department Saturday said that as per Rule 3(2) of the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, “a member of the service who is detained in official custody whether on a criminal charge or otherwise for a period longer than 48 hours, shall be deemed to have been suspended by the Government”.
