Given the sluggish way the Lightning started Friday night’s game in Detroit, you wouldn’t have thought they would have had a chance to beat the Red Wings in overtime.

But their division game at Little Caesars Arena had an all-too-familiar script, portions of winning hockey but enough mistakes to make them feel unsatisfied in the dressing room afterward.

In the end Friday night, it was all or nothing in the 3-on-3 overtime. They were determined to be patient and not get caught off-guard, bringing the puck back into the neutral zone to reset. But when they couldn’t connect on their best look at the net, it left Andrei Vasilevskiy, who has been superb all night, hung out to dry.
