One of the first areas to be hit by South Australia's devastating algal bloom is looking towards recovery with plans to rebuild the population of native mussels in the waters of Encounter Bay.
In early March signs that something was wrong with South Australia's waters began appearing around Victor Harbor on the Fleurieu Peninsula .
In the months to come other beaches, including metropolitan ones, would be hit.
Now, as signs of healthy marine life return to Encounter Bay, a trial is planned to find out how to best boost native mussel numbers.
But it needs more long-term local knowledge from fishers, residents and holiday makers to fill in some information gaps.
