A 76-year-old woman was killed by a shuttle bus near Montreal's Trudeau International Airport, prompting an ongoing investigation by local police. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the Park’N Fly Express A parking lot on Marshall Avenue in Dorval, approximately one kilometer from the airport.
According to police, the woman was near a shuttle-bus shelter when she was struck. Following the collision, the bus traveled over 100 meters, hitting four parked cars before crashing through a fence and landing in a ditch. The bus driver, a 56-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for shock but did not sustain serious injuries. At the time of the incident, there were no passengers on the bus, and no one was in the parked vehicles that were hit.
Manuel Couture, a spokesperson for the Montreal police, stated that the investigation is still in its early stages. As of Saturday, the bus driver had not yet been interviewed. Investigators are examining the condition of the vehicle and the driver's state at the time of the crash. Couture noted, "The investigation continues," and emphasized that police have not ruled out a criminal element. They are also considering whether a medical episode may have contributed to the incident.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed, and police have not confirmed whether she was a tourist or a local resident. Reports indicate that she appeared to be parking her car and preparing to catch a flight when the accident occurred.
The next steps in the investigation include interviewing the driver and witnesses, as well as analyzing the crash scene. Couture mentioned that the timing of the driver's interview would depend on his medical condition, stating, "Maybe today or in the next few days."
In response to the incident, Park’N Fly released a statement expressing condolences to the victim's family. The company described the crash as "a tragic event" and affirmed that safety is their top priority. They are reviewing all aspects of the incident and are cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation.
