BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- A Gonzales couple is facing charges after deputies said they took nearly $187,000 for a home construction project that was never completed.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Angel Lambert, 37, and William Lambert III, 43, were arrested and charged with residential contractor fraud, forgery, obstruction of justice, and theft over $25,000.

Deputies began investigating in June after a victim reported paying the couple for work that had not started as of April. Detectives later learned the Lamberts were not licensed contractors and had hired unlicensed workers before abandoning the project.
