CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) - The Panthers played a competitive game, but ultimately came up short against the Coyotes on Saturday.

It was a low-scoring, defensive battle from start to finish in Cedar Falls, as a touchdown by each team and a South Dakota field goal led to a 10-7 Coyote advantage at halfitme.

That field goal would ultimately be the difference in this game, as each team logged a touchdown in the second half, but the Panthers couldn’t muster enough offense to get past South Dakota. The end result was a 14-17 Coyote win.

Northern Iowa quarterback Matthew Schecklman completed 22 of 40 passing attempts for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He was also the lead rusher on the day for the Panthers, carrying the ball 60 yards on 16 carries.

The Panther defense allowed 202 passing yards
