LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -On Saturday, community members sold firearms for cash at a gun buyback event at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.
The annual event allowed people to sell assault rifles, handguns, and long guns for extra cash.
All guns purchased at the event were properly destroyed to help avoid possible misuse in the community.
Bishop Bonnie Perry with the Episcopal Diocese said the event makes a difference in community safety.
“We know it makes a difference,” said Perry. “We know having access to firearms increases people’s chances of dying by firearms. And so if we get firearms out of people’s houses, then there have that decreases their chance.”
