SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The U.S. Government shutdown has been ongoing for almost three weeks.
Politicians in Washington can't agree on legislation to fund the government. According to the latest numbers from the Office of Personnel Management, there are just shy of 9,000 civilian federal workers in South Dakota impacted by the shutdown.
In South Dakota, the EROS Data Center, located near Garretson, is one of the most significant federal civilian operations, employing more than 600 people. They are involved in scientific research and data management.
EROS workers utilize information from satellites and aircraft to monitor land changes, conduct natural resource assessments, and inform disaster response efforts worldwide.
