Saturday Night Live will air a new episode on Saturday night with host and musical guest Sabrina Carpenter, but a major cast member will not make the live broadcast.
Cast member Bowen Yang will miss the Carpenter episode as he will reportedly be accepting an award during the show.
"According to a source close to the show, Yang’s absence was preplanned so that the Wicked star could accept the Academy Museum’s Vantage Award, which honors an emerging artist who challenges and recontextualizes the dominant narratives in TV and film," Variety's Jack Dunn reported.
"He was still reportedly present to help write tonight’s episode and will appear in a pre-taped sketch."
Yang confirmed his absence for Saturday's show in an Instagram story, but it sounds like he'll still appear in the show in a pre-taped segment.
The longtime SNL cast member should return for the Nov. 1 broadcast with host Miles Teller and musical guest Brandi Carlile.
