Downtown Salem and the area around the Capitol were inundated with thousands of people marching with American flags and signs, some wearing puffy animal costumes, for the No Kings protest on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Those who attended the protest expressed concern for what they view as the emergence of an authoritarian dictatorship in the United States under President Donald Trump and his administration. Thousands of similar protests occurred across the nation.

Organizers for Salem’s protest with Salem Region Indivisible told Salem Reporter they believe the crowd, which stretched in both directions along Northeast Center Street, approached 10,000.
