Organizers called it a nonviolent protest rejecting what they called authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics and the militarization of democracy.
"We want to protect the Constitution," said Alanah Odoms, Louisiana ACLU executive director. "We want to make sure people have their fundamental rights and that we're not going to stand by as those things are eroded and taken away."
Demonstrators chanted slogans and carried signs expressing their opposition to President Donald Trump's policies.
"I got goosebumps when I came because at first, it's a little scary from what you see on television," protester Karen Cantrelle said. "I was a little apprehensive about coming out, but I just had a tugging feeling that I needed to be here, so I'm here."
