Australian National University Chancellor Julie Bishop 's Instagram followers have found themselves members of an oddly exclusive club.

Ms Bishop, who has long chronicled her glamorous, jet-setting lifestyle on social media, will now do so for a restricted audience after recently setting her profile to private.

The former deputy prime minister and Australia's first female foreign minister - whose image has taken a battering amid the university's repeated scandals - seems to be signalling that she is no longer public property.
