The family of convicted murderer Luke Mitchell have hired a new legal team after his supporters raised £22,000 to fund a fresh fight against his conviction, 20 years after he was jailed for life.

Work to overturn his case has begun after the "brand-new, top-tier" team were appointed to reinvestigate it.

As reported by the Daily Record , the money was raised after the now-36-year-old's mother, Corrine, sent a letter to her son's supporters begging for help last month.

At the time, she claimed the "We Stand Together for Luke Mitchell Campaign" had a 30-day deadline to raise £20,000 to challenge "a grave miscarriage of justice".
