LAKEWOOD, Colo. (KKTV) - A barbecue grill is to blame for a fire that injured one person and displaced three families in Lakewood over the weekend.

West Metro Fire says it responded to an apartment complex near Green Mountain Park just after noon Saturday for an apartment building on fire.

“Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles,” West Metro Fire said.

Windy conditions had helped the fire spread, and flames could be seen in multiple units when crews arrived. They were able to contain the fire to three apartments, though a fourth apartment had smoke damage.

“One resident was injured, treated on scene by paramedics, and then released," West Metro Fire said. “Three families were displaced and assisted by the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming.”
