The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has decided not to participate in the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, just a day after announcing its intention to contest six seats. The party's leadership claims this sudden change is due to a "political conspiracy" orchestrated by its allies, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, which allegedly deprived JMM of its rightful seats in the Mahagathbandhan.
Senior JMM leader Sudivya Kumar expressed the party's disappointment, stating, "The RJD and the Congress are responsible for depriving JMM from contesting the election as part of a political conspiracy. JMM will give a befitting reply to this, and review its alliance with RJD and Congress."
Initially, JMM had planned to contest the Chakai, Dhamdaha, Katoria, Manihari, Jamui, and Pirpainti seats, which are set for elections in the second phase on November 11. The deadline for submitting nomination papers for these seats was Monday.
Kumar highlighted past grievances, noting that JMM had supported RJD in the 2015 Bihar elections and had given seats to RJD in the 2019 Jharkhand elections, but felt betrayed by the recent seat-sharing arrangements. He stated, "In the Bihar election of 2020, the JMM was assured of three seats by the RJD and Congress, but later they divided the seats among themselves, deceiving us."
The JMM leadership is now considering a review of its alliances in Jharkhand, indicating that the party feels its interests have not been adequately represented. Kumar emphasized that the party's sentiments have been hurt and that the perceived betrayal will not be forgotten. He also mentioned that Congress should have advocated for JMM's interests in Bihar but failed to do so.
This development marks a significant shift in JMM's electoral strategy and raises questions about the future of its alliances in the region.
