The Indianapolis Colts have found their rhythm again, powered by the relentless legs of Jonathan Taylor. On Sunday at SoFi Stadium, Taylor scored three touchdowns in a 38-24 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, pushing the Colts to 6-1 and solidifying their place atop the AFC South. The victory marked yet another statement performance from the league’s most productive running back.
Taylor entered Week 7 leading the NFL in both rushing yards and touchdowns, and he only extended his lead with another dominant outing. He finished with 94 rushing yards on 16 carries and added 39 receiving yards on three catches. His three scores were from 23, 8, and 19 yards out. This gave him 10 touchdowns on the season, a mark unmatched by any player so far this year.
From the opening drive, Taylor set the tone. On the Colts’ first possession, he burst through the left side of the line for a 23-yard touchdown run, untouched. Indianapolis jumped ahead 23-3 by halftime, thanks largely to Taylor’s work on the ground and Daniel Jones’ efficiency through the air. Jones threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns while managing the offense with poise.
The Chargers, led by Justin Herbert’s 423 passing yards and three scores, tried to rally in the second half, but Taylor’s response quickly doused every spark they ignited. His 8-yard touchdown in the third quarter came moments after a big kick return by Ameer Abdullah, and then, his 19-yard scoring run effectively sealed the game. Each time the Chargers closed the gap, Taylor answered with the kind of physical running and acceleration that make him the centerpiece of the Colts’ offense.
Now through seven games, Taylor is averaging over 110 yards from scrimmage per game, continuing the revival of a backfield that many believe is the heartbeat of Indianapolis football. His chemistry with Jones and the dominance of the offensive line have helped create one of the league’s most balanced attacks.
For a team that missed the playoffs a year ago, the Colts are now surging behind their star. Jonathan Taylor is not just leading the league; he’s carrying a contender with him, one touchdown at a time.
