Netlix announced Monday that it is planning to release a new drama series on the Kennedy family, starring Michael Fassbender.

The eight-episode series will be based on Frederik Logevall's book, "JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956," which explores the highs and lows of the Kennedy family. The first season of the series will begin in the 1930s, charting the ascent of Joe and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, including their rebellious son Jack.

The show will star Michael Fassbender as Joe Kennedy Sr. The show is from Chernin Antertainment and showrunner Sam Shaw, who has previously worked on "Manhattan," "Castle Rock" and "Masters of Sex." Thomas Vinterberg is slated to direct.
