The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is searching for answers in what led up to a deadly crash that claimed the life of one person.

According to a press release from the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, preliminary information indicates 26-year-old Victory Lewis Mason of Port Wentworth was traveling at a high rate of speed while driving under the influence in a Ford Mustang on Kolic Helmey Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and struck multiple buildings in the area. During the incident, he was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
