SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Spartanburg Police Department announced the passing of beloved Officer Javan King. Jr.
The department said Officer King, who retired in August 2024, passed away on Monday morning.
King began his service with his service with the City of Spartanburg as a Public Safety Officer in November of 1984. Officials said he became a Crime Prevention Officer in 1988, was promoted to patrol sergeant in 1990, went to investigations in 1993 and then returned to crime prevention where he served as the school resource officer (SRO) at Dorman High School.
According to the department, when King became an SRO at Dorman, the school was in the city limits. When it moved, King was "so highly thought of“, they requested him to continue being an SRO at Dorman. He remained
