CANTON TWP. – Canton Local Schools put its buildings on a soft lockdown for about an hour Monday morning after the high school received a threatening phone call.
The lockdown was lifted around 12:53 p.m., exactly an hour after the call came in.
In a notification to parents on social media, Superintendent Larry Tausch said, "Out of an abundance of caution, the building was immediately placed on lockdown while law enforcement and school administrators responded."
Because of the proximity of its remaining schools, all buildings were placed on the soft lockdown, he added.
Officials tried to send an alert to parents, but a systemwide outage at the platform Parent Square did not allow the call to be made, he said.
It is the third Stark County high school to receive a threatening phone call
