The price of popping to the shops appears to grow dearer as each year passes, but under a new government scheme eligible households will receive a cash payout to lend a helping hand.
Up to £190 in supermarket vouchers for food and other household essential this winter will be provided by the Government’s Household Support Fund, who distribute the help to councils across England to help those with the increasing cost of living.
The pot set aside by the Government stands at £742 million this year, with a portion of the budget allocated to each council to offer support to those in need until March 31, 2026.
Each council will decide how the money is split, so it is likely there may be different eligibility criteria dependent upon where you live.
