On Oct. 17, less than three month into his sentence, George Santos was released from Federal Correctional Institution in Cumberland County.
His release came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he signed a commutation.
Santos was originally set to serve a seven-year sentence in the South Jersey prison.
Why was George Santos released?
On Oct. 17, Trump wrote a Truth Social post that called Santos a rogue and shared the news of the signed commutation. In the post he wished Santos luck and told him to have a great life.
Trump added that Santos “had the Courage, Conviction, and Intelligence to ALWAYS VOTE REPUBLICAN!”
