Anthony Albanese and US President Donald Trump have inked a freshly agreed critical minerals deal.

The agreement was signed in the White House Cabinet Room just moments after the Prime Minister’s arrival on Monday morning local time.

It is the first time Mr Trump has signed an agreement with a foreign leader in the Cabinet Room this term.

Speaking to media before signing, Mr Trump said the deal had been negotiated over the course of “four to five months”.

“It was sort of good timing that we got it done just in time for the visit,” he said.

“We work together very much on rare earths, critical minerals and lots of other things. And we’ve had a very good relationship. We’ve been working on that for quite a while.
