The landscape of domestic violence is complex and constantly shifting. What survivors need today is not what they needed five, ten, or twenty years ago. Communities evolve. Systems change. Crises emerge unexpectedly. And through it all, Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh (WC&S) has remained steadfast—responsive, flexible, and innovative.

Every October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month reminds us that the work of supporting survivors is never static. It is ongoing, urgent, and shaped by the challenges of our time. For WC&S, this has meant more than 50 years of meeting the moment: adapting services, expanding resources, and finding new ways to ensure that safety, healing, and dignity are always within reach for survivors and their children.
