VAN BUREN TWP, MI - The owner and pilot of a 1981 MiG-23 plane that crashed during a 2023 air show is suing his passenger, saying he had no authority to eject the pair.

Daniel Filer, then 61, was flying the Mikoyan Gurevich MIG-23U that crashed during an Aug. 13, 2023, performance at Thunder Over Michigan. During the performance, held at Willow Run Airport east of Ypsilanti, the plane experienced a malfunction and crashed into unoccupied cars outside a nearby apartment building.
