Nineteen members of the Rutland City Police Department have written letters to the Board of Aldermen objecting to a recent vote that stripped them of two of their benefits.
A motion at the Oct. 6 Board of Aldermen meeting to extend payments for gym memberships and ski passes for city police officers for a year failed by a vote of 5-3. While a simple majority of the members present — one was absent and a seat is vacant — supported the motion, board rules require a minimum of six votes for a motion to pass, and the chair is only allowed to vote to break ties.
