Samara Joy's life has always been filled with music.
Born into a family of musicians, "there was never a family gathering where we weren't singing together," she says.
But growing up in a family of gospel singers, jazz wasn't really a part of Joy's life until later.
She says she first started singing jazz vocals during high school and really started exploring the genre when she went to music school at State University of New York, Purchase.
Now, at just 25 years old, the jazz vocalist is already being compared to the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
Joy has built a huge following online, with over a million fans across social media, and is credited with bringing Gen Z audiences to jazz.
She's also bringing in the awards.
