OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – A longtime Springfield Township firefighter died over the weekend following an off-duty incident at his Oakland County home.
“It is with profound sadness that the Springfield Township Fire Department announces the sudden and tragic passing of Lieutenant Jonathan Miner at the age of 50,” reads a Monday, Oct. 20, press release from the agency.
Firefighters from the department were called out shortly after 10:03 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, for “a report of a traumatic injury after “something had just blown up” while a man was working on a project in his driveway,” per the release.
Miner was injured in the incident. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
