LUDLOW, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Massachusetts drivers will soon face stiffer penalties for not moving over for roadside workers under a bill recently passed the state senate.

The bill doubles down on roadside protections for drivers, utility crews, and anyone else who has to work or stop while on the road. It’s titled “An Act Relative to the Move Over Law”, it expands existing protections for emergency vehicles to include utility trucks and any disabled vehicle displaying hazard or flashing lights.

The bill requires that those driving past must slow down and, when possible, move over a lane when approaching a stationary utility vehicle or car stopped on the shoulder in hopes of preventing more crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Massachusetts roads.
