The same thing that killed Prestige TV is now endangering the comic book industry, from Marvel and DC titles to indie books. Television storytelling has undergone a monumental shift over the past several decades, and many shows today have clearly learned the wrong lessons from their predecessors; now, those same problems are becoming apparent in contemporary comics.
Modern television, which can perhaps officially be called “post-Prestige TV,” is beset by problems of structure and pacing. Liberated from the restrictions of convention and formula, it has become aimless.
Worse, it has developed bad habits in place of these conventions, habits that are now leaking into the comic medium.
