Bolivians had enough. Twenty years of socialist misrule delivered rampant inflation, a currency crisis, food shortages and, despite vast energy reserves, endless fuel lines caused by strict price controls. Nationalization ran off foreign investment. Eventually, the corrupt government — despite being propped up by Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and China — ran out of other people’s money to burn.
