SAO PAULO (Reuters) -Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva tapped on Monday federal lawmaker Guilherme Boulos to head the secretariat of the presidency, a position with ministerial status, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
The government-aligned Socialism and Liberty Party member will replace Marcio Macedo, a politician from Lula's Workers Party who had been in the role since the beginning of Lula's current term in 2023.
Boulos built his political career at the homeless workers movement and was elected federal lawmaker in 2022. He has run for positions in the Executive branch, including the Presidency in 2018. Last year, he lost the run-off for Sao Paulo mayor.
The change is the latest made by Lula, who is expected to run for re-election next year, in key positions close to the Presidency. Earlier this year, he swapped the Presidential head of communications and the institutional relations minister.
