Denver Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw was issued a one-game suspension by the NFL on Monday for verbally threatening a referee, the league announced.

The ban for unsportsmanlike conduct came for Greenlaw's actions shortly after Denver's 33-32 home victory over the New York Giants on Sunday.

An NFL statement said Greenlaw "chased after referee Brad Allen and verbally threatened him as he tried to leave the field."

Greenlaw can appeal his ban under terms of the league's collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association.

Greenlaw, however, is for now suspended for Denver's home game Sunday against Dallas and eligible to return to the Broncos' active roster next Monday.
