DECATUR, IL. (WAND) - It finally feels like fall in central Illinois, but it still doesn’t quite look like it outside. The fall foliage is slowly coming along, with most of the region still about 1 to 2 weeks away from peak.
After below average rainfall for the end of summer and a worsening drought through the start of fall, we may be heading toward a less colorful peak for this season. During a fall drought, leaves can fall off faster than they change color, and with only a patchy changeover so far, that may be what’s in store for us in central Illinois.
Otherwise, we enjoyed a sunny, mild, and windy start to the work week. Gusty winds peaked at nearly 40mph for a few hometowns, and sustained winds will remain breezy through the rest of this evening.
