SALT LAKE CITY — A hunter broke his leg while hiking in the Big Hollow area of Wasatch County on Sunday, initiating a search and rescue operation.
Due to the remote location, Wasatch County officials called for help from a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter. But the chopper couldn’t fly safely in the area because of the wind.
Officials said the 32-year-old hiker had to be loaded onto a stokes basket and carried by rescuers on foot to an ambulance. The rescue took about 2.5 hours to complete.
The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, Wasatch County Search and Rescue, Wasatch Fire, and the Utah Department of Public Safety all assisted with the rescue.
