A Union County man was charged with attempted murder after barricading himself inside a home and firing at police during an hours-long standoff on Saturday, authorities said.

Tom Ronckovitz, 48, of Mountainside, was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and weapons offenses, officials with the Union County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Mountainside police responded to a home on Bridal Path Saturday afternoon after a reported domestic dispute involving a handgun, officials said.

Ronckovitz refused to exit the home when police arrived and several agencies from the county, including mental health professionals, provided support to encourage a voluntary surrender, officials said.
