The case of the man accused of murdering Samuel Bird was in court for the first time Monday as supporters of the slain 14-year-old rallied outside the courthouse.

Bryan Clinton James Farrell, 38, remains in custody and was not brought before the Alberta Court of Justice Monday morning for his first appearance on a raft of charges including second-degree murder, interfering with a body, arson and assaulting police officers. The charges were laid last week shortly before police found Bird’s body in a rural area south of Stony Plain.
