CHAPIN, S.C. (WIS) - Orange and purple flags led the way as Chapin community members visited town hall Monday to pay their respects to Mayor Al Koon.
Koon lay in state at town hall Monday, where dozens came to honor the 74-year-old leader known for his dedicated service to the town, his devotion as a husband and father and his support of the Clemson Tigers.
The town announced Koon’s passing Friday , just two days after announcing he entered hospice care.
Albert R. Koon was born in Chapin and spent years serving the small town. He first served as a town council member before becoming mayor in 2021.
“He was a darn good leader, and he knew how to handle people and manage people, so I would simply say my life was enriched by the life of Mayor Al Koon,” said Walt McLeod, a friend.
