HAPPY, Texas (KFDA) - Texas youth camps are struggling to implement new safety requirements under legislation passed following a tragic flooding incident at Camp Mystic.

In August, Texas passed Senate Bill 1, known as the “Heaven 27 Camp Safety Act,” requiring new safety regulations for youth camps during emergencies.

Ceta Canyon Camp and Retreat Center’s CEO testified before the Texas Senate in Austin in support of additional safety reform.

The bill requires real-time weather alerts, emergency training for staff, evacuation plans, end-to-end fiber lines, and other safety measures.

However, due to the fast-moving pace of the bill, there was not much conversation surrounding the reform. Now camps are having a hard time implementing all of the changes in time.
