The controversial central Queensland river chosen to host rowing and canoeing events at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics has been given its first "green light".
Rockhampton's Fitzroy River was announced as the Olympic venue in March , but the decision received backlash from national and international bodies, warning the waterway did not meet technical standards.
However, the CQ32 Rowing Legacy Advisory Committee confirmed on Tuesday the river had passed initial testing by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA).
The CQ32 committee includes local political, tourism and business leaders from across the region.
