SOMERSWORTH — Mayor Matt Gerding and city officials are trying to keep a library upgrades project alive after a request for $6.88 million in federal funding was denied.
Gerding and the City Council had worked with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-New Hampshire, and were very hopeful this summer the grant would be awarded, finally helping make the library Americans with Disabilities Act compliant. The upgrades that were planned included a new children's room, bringing it out of the basement, improved restrooms and an elevator.
