A mentoring scheme to encourage women into politics is being set up in honour of the late Hamilton MSP Christina McKelvie. ‌

The popular and respected politician, who had represented Hamilton, Larkhall & Stonehouse for 14 of her 18 years at Holyrood and served in a number of Scottish Government ministerial roles, died of breast cancer in March aged just 57. ‌

Now her SNP colleagues have established the “Lead the Change: Christina McKelvie women in politics” scheme in her memory – while she will also be celebrated with a special “wear it pink” event in her memory next April. ‌
