Tony Hale feels like "a kid in a candy shop" whenever he sees snippets from Toy Story 5. The Veep actor will reprise his voice role as Forky alongside Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack as Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie in the upcoming animated film, which will follow the toys as they compete against electronics. Hale, who joined the franchise in 2019's Toy Story 4, revealed in an interview with Cover Media that he doesn't know the complete story as the script is top secret, so he gets very excited whenever he catches snippets of the film. "When we're recording, we kind of get pages, we don't see the whole script, you know, it's all locked in the Pixar vault," he explained. "So I was able to see snippets and (I was) like a kid in a candy shop. You're just like, 'Oh my gosh, it looks so good!'" The Arrested Development actor recorded some of Forky's lines at the start of the summer, and he doesn't know if he'll be called back in for more sessions. "I don't know. It's always a fun email when it's like, 'Hey, they want to bring you back to record some more.' And you're like, (excited voice), 'Really?! Really?!' I'm always on the ready," he shared. Hale said he has had "the best" time revisiting the character so far, adding, "Forky's still just asking questions and wide-eyed and curious... Forky's the only toy that was made by a kid, and I love the simplicity of him." The Inside Out 2 star also praised the "toys against tech" theme, calling it "a really genius idea". Toy Story 5 is due to be released in June 2026. Hale currently stars in the family fantasy adventure, Sketch, which is out in cinemas on Friday 24 October.
